Starting December 15 you will be able to travel on National highways without stopping to pay toll charges. The MoRTH (Ministry Of Roadways, Transport & Highways) and NHAI (National Highway Authority of India) has introduced FASTag as an electronic
toll collection (ETC) mechanism. FASTag is essentially a sticker enabled with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology that is stuck to the vehicle’s windshield. It is linked directly to a pre-paid
wallet or bank account. If you have sufficient money in the connected account, you can drive through an ETC enabled lane at a highway toll plaza without stopping to pay the toll manually. To ensure that your FASTag works smoothly all you have
to do is to maintain sufficient balance in the wallet or bank account.
You have to first create your FASTag account or wallet to activate the sticker. You can buy the FASTag from a toll plaza, an ecommerce website
or through an authorised bank like Axis Bank. In case of Axis Bank the process is online and you need to upload just an RC copy. Your tag will be delivered at your doorstep. To track your FASTag delivery through Axis Bank, you can go to blue
dart tracking and use your vehicle number as the reference number. Then once you start using it, you have to reload or recharge the FASTag. The frequency will depend on your usage and type of vehicle. The process to recharge your FASTag is
quick and easy. It can be done entirely online in a few steps. Let us see how to do it.
Replenishing your FASTag can be done in several ways:
Using NEFT/RTGS: Access your internet banking or mobile banking application.
Add your vehicle as a recipient using the FASTag wallet ID or vehicle number.
Enter the IFSC code of your bank (for instance, Axis Bank's IFSC is UTIB0000XXX). After adding your vehicle as a beneficiary, you can easily top-up your FASTag whenever needed.
[Through the FASTag portal at ETC ]
If you are a new user, complete the registration process to create your user ID and password. Choose 'Retail User' and sign in.
Navigate to 'Road User Center', then 'Payment and Top Up', and select 'Recharge'.
You can fund your wallet using a Credit/Debit Card, internet banking, or UPI.
Auto debit for Axis Bank customers: Axis Bank account holders can arrange for an automatic transfer of funds from their bank account to the FASTag wallet.
You need to send an email to etc.management@axisbank.com with your account information and desired thresholds for auto-debit setup.
By employing these methods, you can ensure your FASTag is always ready for use.
If you have more than one car, you can link the FASTag of each of the cars to one wallet which will be auto debited as per the minimum thresholds set by you.
