Axis Bank dedicates four New Branches in the North-East in the presence of Hon. Finance Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman

  • The Union Finance Minister visited Axis Bank’s Mon branch, the first private sector bank branch in Mon District, Nagaland and virtually addressed the other three newly dedicated branches in the region
  • The Bank will now have 152 branches and 282 ATMs in the North-East, thereby reiterating its commitment towards inclusive growth 
  • In Nagaland, Axis Bank as the 2nd largest network of branches and area covered amongst all Banks 

Axis Bank dedicates four New Branches


The Hon. Finance Minister of India, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman lauded the efforts of Axis Bank, India’s third largest private sector bank, for dedicating its Mon branch, which is now the first private sector bank branch in Mon District, Nagaland. With an aim to reinstate the Bank’s mission of offering banking services in semi-urban and rural regions, Axis Bank recently dedicated four branches in the North-East region. It includes the Mon Branch at Mon District, Nagaland; Madanrting Branch at East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya; and two in Assam, namely, Demow Branch at Sibsagar District and Gohpur Branch at Biswanath District. It was a proud moment for the Bank as the Hon. Finance Minister of India graced the new branch at Mon and addressed its people in the presence of Mr. Amitabh Chaudhry, MD & CEO, Axis Bank and Mr. Ravi Narayanan, Group Executive & Head - Branch Banking, Retail Liabilities & Products, Axis Bank. The branch will offer a comprehensive range of banking products and services like savings and current accounts, deposits, loans etc. to the citizens of Mon district, empowering them with better economic prospects and business opportunities. 

With the launch of Mon branch, Axis Bank became the maiden private sector bank in the district to cater its citizens, reinstating the Bank’s commitment towards financial inclusion for all in line with the Government of India’s vision. In Nagaland, Axis Bank has the 2nd largest network of branches and area covered amongst all Banks. 

The Madanrting Branch in Meghalaya, the Bank’s 12th branch in the state, has been set up specifically to address the banking requirements of the defense personnel and business communities based in the East Khasi Hills district.

The Demow branch will cater to the banking requirements of workers in the Tea Plantation estates in Assam, while Gohpur branch will also extend various banking services to the citizens. With these two additions, Axis Bank’s total number of branches in Assam would be 90.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Amitabh Chaudhry, MD & CEO, Axis Bank said, “It is an extremely proud moment for all of us at Axis to have Hon. Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman with us today, to encourage us on our progress and efforts in the North- East. This will be our 12th Axis Bank branch in Nagaland, and we have 99% local officials in our total strength, with 41% women employees. One of the basic requirements of people in developing regions is access to easy funds through convenient ways. We, understand this need for inclusive growth and are keen to aid and support the transition in this region. While the journey to upscale our digital initiatives and offerings continues, our branches will play a pivotal role in guiding and assisting customers through their banking journey. Our new branches in line with our Dil Se Open philosophy reinforces our credo that we are always available, open and constantly listening to our customers."

Axis Bank will reach out to customers, empower them with digital offerings and facilitate services through its branch offices, as well as through the highly rated Axis Mobile application. It will educate and encourage customers to increasingly make use of the digital modes of payments for daily transactions.
